Amy Begg De Groff Takes Over as LibLime Division Manager
North Bethesda, MD, February 14, 2014- LibLime, a division of PTFS, announces that Amy Begg De Groff will be taking on responsibilities as the LibLime Division Manager.
Ms. De Groff came to PTFS in 2010 as the Transition Management consultant charged with overseeing the LibLime acquisition. She came to PTFS from Howard County Library (HCL) where she was Director of Information Technology. As LibLime Division Manager, Ms. De Groff will oversee LibLime products & services, work with LibLime clients on ongoing feature development, and provide day to day management of the Division.
In accepting this position, Amy says “Accepting the offer to return to PTFS as a full time member of the LibLime Division was an easy decision. With the US Federal Government validating the LibLime approach to open development – as evidenced by two multi-year, multi-million dollar contracts, it is clear that LibLime is in an ideal position to truly deliver a state-of-the-art, scalable information retrieval system that has been, for some time now, merely an idea for many professionals. “ Amy points out, “2014 will certainly be a year of continued success for LibLime; my role will be to do all I can to help LibLime’s talented team to continue their superior work.”
Ms. De Groff has been a librarian for over 20 years. While with the Smithsonian Institution Libraries in the 1990’s, she was involved in early digitization and imaging projects. She moved to PTFS in 2000, where she gained valuable experience in federal procurement and federal service contracts; she worked on several multi -million dollar contracts, involving agencies such as the National Archives and Records Administration, the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, and the National Library of Medicine. Ms. De Groff then joined Watson Wyatt Worldwide as Director of their Records Management Program, becoming responsible for the management of print and digital collections in 35 North American offices.
In 2005, De Groff moved to HCL, joining Brian Auger (currently Director of the Somerset County Library System). As a team, they wanted to step beyond the world of proprietary software and take control of their technology trajectory by reimagining how libraries select and deploy technology solutions. The vision was that open development solutions offered libraries a way to reduce their IT spending and transfer that spending to areas where libraries should focus their energies – providing services – such as more materials, more programs, and more staff. One example of their success -- within five years HCL had doubled the number of public computers at the six branches, with no increase in cost by deploying Ubuntu rather than a proprietary desktop operating system.
