DevWeek wraps up - KohaCon 2006 closes

13 May 2006

The Koha community is preparing to head back to their respective homes after a very successful conference in Paris on the 2nd and 3rd, and a highly productive Developers Week in Marseille.

Summary of Conference - 2nd and 3rd May

Approximately 100 people collectively attended the first ever Discover Koha and Koha User Group conference held at Ecole des Mines in Paris. The conference marked the first time the Koha community has joined together in one place.

We were honored to have our mystery speaker, Jose Brito, the vice mayor for S'aint Germian sur Morin, start the conference with a presentation about Open Source. The community would also like to thank Paul Poulain and Pascale Nalon for organising the conference, Ecole des Mines for their gracious hosting and INEO media systems for sponsoring the lunch on Wednesday.

The website editor now has the DVD's of the conference proceedings and will begin the long task of editing and encoding. It is expected that the video clips will be available, at least in part, from the end of next week.

Summary of DevWeek - 8th to 12th May

The conference then moved to Marseille for DevWeek. 19 developers turned up to CMI, at the Technople Gombert in Marseille. Although many topics were discussed, the two key topics where ZEBRA and online help documentation.

The ZEBRA group have made some good progress and are happy to announce that they are into the 2nd phase of development. This brings us ever closer to our goal of a Koha 3.0 release. Whilst there is still some hard work ahead, the feeling is that we are on the home straight.

A separate group worked on filling the gaps in the online documentation for the Koha Intranet (librarian's interface). To make it easier for non developers to write this documentation, the developers' wiki has been set up as the space to do all this work. As we get closer to a release, the online help content from the wiki will be transferred to CVS for distribution with this release. We welcome contributions to this effort. If you would like to assist with this, please read the Online Help Style Guide for directions on how to write this documentation.

Farewell - Bonne chance, bonne voyage.
